It is an all too common problem that typically gets overlooked.  We often find our clients car-less and license-less after they have been charged with a Maryland DUI.  Meeting in person with your Maryland lawyer is a critical element to building a defense against any DUI charge, but it is often made difficult by the complications of the crime.  It is not uncommon for vehicles to be damaged, totaled, confiscated, or otherwise undrivable following a Maryland DUI . The driver’s license is suspended when a Maryland lawyer is not consulted within the first 30 days after the arrest.  How can you prepare a defense if you can’t consult with your Maryland lawyer?

Maryland lawyer:The tradition

Traditional lawyers who handle Maryland DUI and criminal cases recognize that clients often have transportation issues.  Maryland DUI lawyers’ offices are commonly located near bus routes as a remedy to this issue. Additionally, Maryland DUI lawyers may have multiple locations with office space, meeting rooms, or may even drive to a local courthouse or coffee shop near a client’s home for a consultation.  Facilitating these arrangements can become difficult depending on circumstances.

As “traditionalists” our office is located on several bus routes 1 block away from many more (See Here).  We also have access to office space in Baltimore County, Howard County, and Harford County to meet with clients.  We often use these spaces when it is more convenient for clients.  Finally, we have met clients at places like Starbucks & Panera Bread.

However, technology has grown to offer some other alternatives.

Maryland Lawyer: The new ENlawyer method

Perhaps the saying should be, "if you have a smart phone, you can talk to your lawyer"

ENLawyers have accommodated for the ability to meet with clients virtually through internet video chat platforms like Skype, Facetime, and Google Hangout. We have these venues in place to make life easier for our clients. Clients with the inability to commute for meetings can access us through these means.

  1. Skype
  2. Google chat/talk
  3. Google Hangout

Obviously the ability to meet in this fashion is contingent on the client having a functional webcam or phone camera.  The ultimate goal is to make the process as simple for the client as possible while getting the necessary information conveyed. The best-case scenario our experience is through a face-to-face meeting, however, this technology provides the ability to come close to that when it is not otherwise feasible.
